Questions children ask

We asked the trainee KPN trainee journalists to come up with some answers to questions that children often ask KPN. Magdalena Lucas did the initial work and then we discussed the answers as a group.
Questions children ask

1. Is it ever cold in Africa

It can get very cold in Africa, especially in the highlands. It even snows sometimes in
 Africa.

2. Do the children have enough warm clothes? Are their clothes just like ours?

No! A lot of children suffer from poverty or live their lives on the streets, without anyone caring for them – but you get many children who are fortunate to have homes and families who are able to give them what they need

3. What games do San children play?

Nowadays our children play soccer, netball and Rugby. They also still play many of the old games and we will put an article on the website about those games later.

4. Do all San children go to school?

Unfortunately not all the San children go to school - for many different reasons. Some people
still believe that education is not important; others live in rural areas where it is very difficult
to get to a nearby government school. Some parents don't send children to school, even if transport is available to take them to a school each day. Some people have big problems getting their children to school.

5. What is school like for them? Do they learn in their own language?

Namibia is the only country where San children are taught in their own language. For San
children, going to school is like any other child going for his/her first time to a school.

6. Are there any dangerous animals near places where San children live?

Yes, there are dangerous animals near our different San communities like lions, rhinos and buffalos but in different communities you find different animals.

7. What food do children eat; do they always have enough to eat?

Children eat what the parents eat. Basically bread sometimes there is meat, chicken to eat with rice, samp or porridge, Rarely vegetables. They do not have enough to
eat every da.

8. What is it like being a child in a San family?

You are poor when it comes to money and materialism, but you are very rich when it comes to knowledge. You are a happy child.
