Day Two of Winter Workshop at !Khwa ttu

2010-07-30 14:28:52

Day Two of Winter Workshop at !Khwa ttu

Six trainee contributors attended an intensive course on how to write for the Internet and how to keep the technology going.

The system was against us on the second day when the Internet slowed down to the pace of a tortoise and it was very difficult to get through the items on the programme – but the Internet is ever thus! We learned a lot about improvising and about working with whatever is available.

Some impressions from the trainees on the workshop:

From Tommy A Busakhwe from SASI Kalahari office
What can you as individual from a personal point of view, contribute to KPN since you are going to partly work with them?

-    I can bring more detailed information of my respective community, the !Khomani San CPA from the Kalahari, and also about what they are doing, what’s happening in their environment and lots about the issues they are dealing with on an every day basis.

What were the most important things you learn from this workshop yesterday and today?

-    To always acknowledge people and sources from whom and which you collect information.
-    To save my documents and information on the Internet.

From Andre Vaalbooi of !Khwa ttu

I must say that I had enjoyed the training and find it very interested, the way the trainers explained the things was also excellent. I now know that there is also a way to save my documents on the Internet. The other thing that I also wanted to said is that I have learned that you need to help people and that I think the trainers do it so well I would like to do so too.

Hendreas Vaalbooi, of !Khwa ttu enjoyed the discussion sessions

We talked about how the Khomani San have lost their language and land. But than there is hope now because the government is givin back the land, or some of they land, and we can learn now the language from CDs and books.

Nunke Khadimo liked the practical aspects

I have learnt to save my document and correct my mistakes. How to send an e-mail to editors and also to write article

Thanks to: Management at !Khwa ttu who not only accommodated the training team, but who kept some of their trainees on for two weeks so that they could take part. SASI in Kimberley sent their two representatives by bus and covered accommodation and food. Most of all, thank you to Hugh Clarke and Mary Cadogan who gave their valuable time to facilitate the workshop. Jay heale joined us on the second day to give a spirited mini-workshop on writing with passion and feeling.
